The Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence was formed in 1999 with the mission of developing and implementing training, educational and advocacy programs to prevent bias, harassment and violence. Our workshops provide participants with an understanding of the impact of bias and harassment, and offer the skills and strategies for respectful interventions.
Our objective is to create safety. We first raise awareness of the damaging impact of degrading language, then empower community members with the knowledge that they have the ability to positively impact the culture around them. We offer the skills to challenge slurs and put-downs and stand up for civility.
The Center is an independent 501(c)(3) organization.

CPHV invites you to participate in building a new future for Maine –
a future in which all the people of Maine experience being respected for
who they are regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation
or physical/mental disability.
CPHV’s current supporters, the people who extend their financial support
to help build this future for Maine, do so for many reasons.
- Some have deeply held values for diversity and justice.
- Some know intimately the pain and loss caused by bias and harassment.
- Some see that Maine could be a model for other states in how to deal powerfully with the challenges of hate and bias.
CPHV urges you to make a gift to yourself and the people of Maine by contributing your financial resources to Maine’s future beyond hate violence. Your money will be spent wisely.
