Speech & Facilitated Discussion

This highly interactive assembly program empowers an entire grade or school with the understanding of the destructive impact of bullying, teasing and harassment, and the important role that students have in preventing this damage in their school.

Student leaders receive training and put their skills into practice, facilitating part of the conversation and guiding their peers towards unity and respect.

The two-hour program is organized into four 30-minute segments:

Facilitation Training: The Center staff leads a brief training session for students selected to serve as facilitators for small group discussions.

Bias Prevention Speech: The Center staff presents a dramatic and engaging speech to raise awareness about the impact of degrading language and the potential for such language to escalate to more serious forms of harassment and even violence.

Small Group Discussion: The Center staff supervises as student facilitators lead a group discussion with 10 to 12 peers about their perspective on bullying and harassment and what they can do to make their school as safe and respectful as possible.

Discussion Summary and Wrap Up: The Center staff brings the students together to review intervention strategies and reinforce the message of respect.
