There are many ways you can donate to the Center for Preventing Hate. Gifts can be designated as unrestricted or restricted for a specific program of the Center. Please be assured that your gifts will be used for the purpose(s) stated, managed with care and confidentiality, and acknowledged in a timely and accurate manner.
Gift of Cash
Your cash gift can be made with your credit card securely online or you can mail a check, made payable to the Center for Preventing Hate at:
Development Department
Center for Preventing Hate
509 Forest Ave. Suite 290
Portland, ME 04101
Gift of Stock
By making a gift of long-term appreciated securities, you can avoid losing a substantial portion of your earnings to the capital gains tax. Per IRS regulations, you receive credit for the mean value of the securities on the date transferred. To obtain instructions on electronic stock transfers, please contact Joanie Kallin, Development Associate.
Gift In-Kind
Gifts of personal property, such as books, office equipment, or services can qualify donors for charitable gift credit. You are responsible for substantiating the value of your in-kind gift for tax purposes. If the value of your gift exceeds $5,000, you will need a written appraisal.
Matching Gift
Many companies encourage employees to give by matching your gift. Ask your employer if they have a matching gift program, and if so, ask how to apply for a matching gift.
Pledge Gift
Pledges refer to major gifts that are designated for a particular program or purpose and are commitments to be fulfilled over a prescribed period of time (usually three to five years). For example, a gift of $15,000 may be paid in installments of $5,000 per year for three years. The details of your gift are recorded on a Pledge Agreement that the Center prepares for your signature.
Tribute Gift
If you are looking for a lovely way to honor or remember a friend or loved one, consider making a tribute gift to the Center for Preventing Hate in their honor or memory. When you make a tribute gift, the Center will (if requested) notify the honoree or next of kin, and will administer the gift as you direct.
